Writing is already hard as it is, but don’t you hate it when you’re stuck with writer’s block? Luckily here’s a few tricks you can pull out when you’re in need of some new blog content.

1. Invite a guest blogger to post: If one of your readers or friend is actively sharing great opinions, then invite them to share an article for the day. Using other voices gives you a break and gives your blog readers a fresh point of view.

2. Revisit old posts and add new stuff to it: Maybe that topic was controversial and requires additional input, or you’ve changed your opinions on something. Revisit that topic and add more to it.

3. Make a schedule of upcoming topics in advance: This is a good way to keep you from running out of ideas at the last minute. Make a schedule gives you the chance to develop your ideas so that they’re better than ever.

4. Add videos/images: Take the opportunity to add multimedia to your blog. Make a film about your company, take photos of the workplace and show as an “office tour”. Make your blog more personal by giving readers an inside peek at your company.

5: Write a list of interesting things you’ve discovered: Collect a few interesting things or ideas and put them into bullet-point posts. This is a great way to keep your blog fresh without requiring a lot of time or energy.

Don’t be afraid to keep things interesting and funny. Remember that if your readers enjoy what you have to say, they will come back for more.

One of my clients asked me a good question the other day: “my competitor doesn’t have a blog…if a blog is so important, why do they not bother to have one?” Some of the answers: “we don’t want to write about our company secrets”, “I don’t know what to write about”, and “I don’t have the time to blog”.

The fact is that no matter what type of business you are in, a blog is one of the best and cost-effective marketing tools of today. The key thing to remember about having a business blog is that you have to actually use it.

There are several good reasons to start Blogging:

A regularly updated blog increases your ranking compared to a simple static or informational website. Postings to a blog containing the right keywords can make the company’s website easier to search for.

Many businesses have successfully utilized blogs to provide more information about their products/services to their clients without sounding as if they’re desperately selling.

You are building yourself up as an “expert” in the industry by providing valuable info and advices in your blog. If you create your own contents, you are directly contributing your knowledge to the industry and over time, your blog could be a credible source of info for anyone looking for info in your industry.

Blogging also encourages interaction which would led to a more trusting, personal relationship between you and your readers.

Blogging is still considered new in the corporate world, and if companies aren’t taking advantage of this new communication to build customer connections, then they are missing a huge opportunity.

Websites have evolved significantly over the past few years. What does it take to make a site work for your business today? Content will still get visitors to your website, but in the long run, what does it take to entice return visits? The answer is that it has to allow visitor interaction.

What does this mean for the typical small business owners?

Use blog software as the engine:

Blog software, such as WordPress, is essentially content management software with SEO, community and syndication built in. Wordpress is built to run almost any type of page you can imagine building, such as contact, product and even a static looking home page.

Get feedback:

Visitors are getting used to sites that allow them to offer ratings and testimonials, which shows social reassurance to those considering your company. You can also engage visitors through polls. Adding simple polls can add an inviting layer of content and give users a reason to return.

Beef up the forms of content:

Remember, Google is the number one search engine, but YouTube is number two. Adding video and audio content has become a must, as it keeps visitors on your site much longer than sites that feature only static text. The use of video and audio is also a great way to reinforce a message and help visitors understand what to do next or what to expect.

Integrate social:

Integrating your Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook accounts to your site is a great way to create interaction with your social profiles and create a viral effect when visitors share or like something on your social profile.

Amplify for awareness:

Also, find ways to amplify your content so that people can interact with it. This includes promoting your site such as adding your social profiles to business cards and printed brochures.

Make your advertising much more about creating awareness for your online content and ways that people can interact and less about selling.

More people are using the web to research companies and products nowadays. If your site does not look appealing, you may be losing businesses.

Here are 5 Must Have’s for a website:

1. About Us page: clients would like to know more about your company before spending money on your products or services. Show your clients your company values and story.

2. Explain exactly what your business does, services you are providing, or products you are selling. You only have a few seconds to hook onto your visitor, so make sense to them!

3. Showcase: show your clients your awards, experiences with other clients through testimonials. Clients like to know that your company has experiences and good recommendations.

4. Social media: Facebook and Twitter can be powerful for your business. If your company does not have an active account, then you’re already behind the competition.

5. Blog: The general rule is the more pages your site has in Google’s index, the more traffic you’ll receive. Blogging is an excellent way to add more pages to your site.

Remember: your company will never go wrong investing more resources into a better website. Why not contact OCgeeks today for your free quote?

If you have been playing with the the AD PowerShell cmdlets you know that it requires a few things to run, first Windows Server 2008 R2 or Windows 7, the .NET Framework 3.5.1 and of course if you want to manage an AD domain you need Active Directory Web Services (ADWS) installed on at least one domain controller.

By the way ADWS requires TCP port 9389

So how in the world does a Windows 7 system know how to find a DC running ADWS? Well your client running PowerShell will use the normal DC locator process. First the client will determine which site it is in nltest /dsgetsite and then it will determine the closest DC nltest /dsgetdc:<fqdn Domain>. It is looking at the DC for the following flag:

    DS_WEB_SERVICE_REQUIRED

More info on that flag can be found here.

Now what if you don’t have Server 2008 R2 DCs? With Server 2003 and Server 2008 a problem occurs because the Net Logon service of those domain controllers does not recognize the DS_WEB_SERVICE_REQUIRED flag. There are two hotfixes (one for what ever version of AD you are running) available to fix that in those environments. Server 2003 and Server 2008

After you install this hotfix the AD PowerShell module and Active Directory Administrative Center will be able to locate DCs that have Active Directory Management Gateway Service installed, similar to Active Directory Web Services (ADWS) on a Windows Server 2008 R2-based computer. </fqdn>

Windows Explorer has undergone a lot of changes in Windows 7 and Vista. As part of several changes, Vista or Windows 7 users will not see the menu bar in Windows Explorer because it’s been hidden. You can make the cloaked Windows Explorer menu bar able to be seen by using any one of these methods:

Make the Explorer menu bar visible temporarily
In order to see the menu bar in Windows Explorer, just hit the ALT key when you’re browsing any folder. The menu bar appears temporarily and will disappear once you let go the ALT key.

Show the Explorer menu bar permanently

To make the hidden Explorer menu bar visible always, just click on the ‘Organize’ button in the top left corner of Windows Explorer. Go to the ‘Layout’ menu option and choose ‘Menu bar’. This toggles the display of the Explorer menu bar.
